Mama’s Stew Showcase @Root 44
Boogie Back is excited to be participating in 1000 Women Dancing,an event celebrating togetherness through dance at the Root 44 Market in Stellenbosch on 31 August. And you are invited to join in on the fun!
ABOUT THE DANCE
As one of the dance schools showcasing at the community event, we will be performing the classic solo jazz routine “Mama’s Stew” and then leading the group in a jam circle. The routine is a good fit for the event: it is named fondly after “Mama” Lou Parks, one of the last generations of Savoy dancers who kept the jazz alive by performing this routine, which had been a favourite of the original Savoy crew, Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. The routine will be a salute to a special lady of swing history.
The “show” lasts 2 hours, but Boogie Back’s slot will last about 5 minutes, so no need to stay the full time. BUT you should arrive at least 15 minutes early to be safe and do a practice run-through. We will confirm our stage time ASAP.
HOW TO JOIN
We will be teaching the routine at the Dance in a Day Workshop in Stellenbosch on 24 August.
For those who cannot make the workshop but would like to participate, you can self-study to learn the routine. This is a fairly simple breakdown of the routine and this is a really sharp performance of it.
To participate in the event, book the workshop (or get practicing!), then email Sarah to confirm your participation: Sarah@boogiebackdance.com
