Vinyl Sessions: Duke Ellington

At our Vinyl Sessions, Cape Town Swing music lovers and DJs meet up to discuss swing music and the people who made it possible. This month, it’s all about The Duke.

The American composer, pianist, and jazz orchestra leader Duke Ellington regularly appeared at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, New York. Ellington wrote more than a thousand compositions including “It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing” and “Take the A Train”.

WHAT’S ON

Host Lise-Mari Maartens, a.k.a. DJ 20th Century Fox, will facilitate an interactive discussion about the legend so bring your favourite Ellington song to discuss! We’ll also be watching a short film of his called Black and Tan (1929).

Please feel free to bring snacks and/or something to drink.

LOCATION

The event will take place in Rondebosch at the home of one of our generous CTS members – you must book to get the address.
