Beginner Lindy Hop: Charleston 101 (Camps Bay)
An essential part of any swing dancer’s repertoire, charleston was the first-ever dance craze and a precursor to the lindy hop. It’s great with the hot jazz of the early 20th century or with the swinging jazz of the 1930s and ‘40s, and lindy hoppers love to mix it in with all the other rhythms and tricks they have in the bag.
Charleston can be danced solo or with a partner, so we’ll start off by learning how to charleston solo, and then how to charleston with a partner –with some tips on leading and following, and some vocab to get you on the social floor.
This course is structured for first-timers (no dance experience needed), and we recommend that you sign up for all classes in the block.
