Beginner Lindy Hop: Frankie’s Sixes (Muizenberg)
This lindy hop* series will take you through a fun little sequence fondly known as “Frankie’s Sixes” – in memory of the late Frankie Manning (legend of lindy hop history) and his favourite six-count sequence.
The series is beginner-friendly: specially designed for those who have no dance experience, and for those who have danced other types of dances but want to try lindy hop for the first time. The classes are structured so that newcomers may join at any time.
* The lindy hop is a partnered dance that originated in the African American communities in Harlem in the 1930s, and spread all over the world during the height of the Swing Era. It’s a dynamic, connected, stretchy, super-fun, expressive dance that plays with the swinging big band music of the era. It’s made a big comeback in recent decades thanks to its joyful energy.
R100 pp/class. No need to bring a partner. Anyone can lead or follow, roles not gendered.
What to bring:
– Comfy shoes that you can dance in (sneakers and formal shoes are great, low vintage style heels are fine too)
– A water bottle
