Beginner Lindy Hop: Switch 101 (Observatory)
Learn how to swing dance from scratch – in both roles! This is a 4-week course where you’ll pick up basic lindy hop steps (in the 6-count rhythm framework) in both the leader role and the follower role. Why? You get to meet and dance with more people, and you’ll become a better dancer (experiencing the “other” role will help you gain a better understanding of what’s needed in your “primary” role).
The course is beginner-friendly, specially designed for those who have little-to-no dance experience, and for those who have danced other types of dances but want to try lindy hop.
* The lindy hop is a partnered dance that originated in the African American communities in Harlem in the 1930s, and spread all over the world during the height of the Swing Era. It’s a dynamic, connected, stretchy, super-fun, expressive dance that plays with the swinging big band music of the era. It’s made a big comeback in recent decades thanks to its joyful energy.
