Dance in a Day Workshop (Stellenbosch)

This afternoon workshop is fit for first-time dancers and experienced lindy hoppers alike. In the first hour, we have an introductory lesson on the basics of lindy hop,* which is beginner-friendly and open to all. Then in the second two hours, we dig deeper into more advanced material for dancers who are already familiar with the basics.

October Theme: Swingouts and Swing-nots
This month, we play with fancy footwork, sneaky turns, and new geography to put a twist on the signature Lindy Hop step, the Swingout! For intermediates, in addition to fun variations, we will also be going over technique for improving your swingout. For this reason, those attending the intermediate workshop MUST be comfortable doing basic swingouts (we will not break it down).

* The lindy hop is a partnered dance that originated in the African American communities in Harlem in the 1930s, and spread all over the world during the height of the Swing Era. It’s a dynamic, connected, stretchy, super-fun, expressive dance that plays with the swinging big band music of the era. It’s made a big comeback in recent decades thanks to its joyful energy.
